This ceremonial throne, a masterpiece of ancient Egyptian art, was entirely overlaid with a 3 mm-thick embossed gold sheet and inlaid with vitreous paste and semi-precious stones.

Depicted in pure Amarna style, the artwork shows Queen Ankhesenamun anointing King Tutankhamun’s shoulder under a kiosk, while the sun god extends his rays upon the couple, symbolizing divine blessing. Howard Carter described it as “the most beautiful thing found to date in Egypt.”
