- Tower Bridge is a combined bascule and suspension bridge in London, built between 1886 and 1894. It is about 240 meters (800 feet) in length and provides an opening 76 meters (250 feet) wide. Its twin towers rise 61 meters (200 feet) above the Thames. The bridge crosses the River Thames close to the Tower of London and has become a world-famous symbol of London. As a result, it is sometimes confused with London Bridge, about 0.5 miles upstream.
